Q: How much I need to wait to validate my node as Host?

Q: How much I need to wait to receive my first contract and earn some BTT?

A: Usually it takes 30 days to get a Host Score > 8, after this it totally depends on Storage demand and number of hosts online, this is a Supply and Demand game. The more hosts on the network the harder to get contracts, the more renters in the network it get easier to have contracts. Theorically the network will balance itself, thus it is important to have cheap host nodes to endure high supply vs low demand times.

Q: How much can I earn as a Host on BTFS network?

A: Potential rewards for running BTFS are as follows:

1. When the Host mode is enabled, Hosts can receive rewards for storing files uploaded by other users; Renters have to pay BTT as storage fees to Hosts that store files for them on the BTFS network. The default storage price is 3840 BTT/TiB/month, which means a Host node will receive 3840 BTT for storing 1 TiB of files for a full month. Each reward will be distributed at the end of the corresponding file storage contract, or rewards for the previous month will be distributed altogether on a monthly basis. More details can be found in "Revenue to date" of the Host tab in the Host UI. Current payouts may be slightly later than the "Next payment date" specified in this zone.
2. Apart from charging storage fees, Hosts can also earn rewards by participating in the storage competition on BTFS. Each day Hosts who store 100 MiB or larger files uploaded by authorized Renters will share 30 million BTT in proportion to their storage size. Everyday we distribute 30% of the rewards to the node, and the rest of them will be sent weekly in 150 days, with one share distributed in Week 1, two shares in Week 2 and so on so forth. Before each distribution the validity and completeness of the stored files will be checked. Only by passing the check can the Host receive rewards. The purpose of doing so is to encourage long-term stability of Host nodes, as the longer they remain stable, the higher their periodic rewards will be. 3. Enable the Repair Mode to retrieve the file shards in the network that are lost due to Host offline, deletion or so. We are still researching and adjusting the reward model for Repair Mode and will announce the launch time later.
