Description
Jolla still strongly suggests to install Aptiode in its all its Sailfish X installation guides and at docs.sailfishos.org, despite Aptoide having a track record of multiple, big security breaches (the biggest one in 2020, see e.g. TJC and FSO), being flooded with malicious APKs (e.g. "fake apps", "typo-squatting apps") since about a decade (10 years!; examples at FSO: [1], [2]) and the Aptoide client app has become a data collection tool since version 8.0.0 (in 2016).
Hence please do stop advertising Aptoide and …
- … remove the Aptoide client app from the Jolla Store for good.
- … eliminate all references to Aptoide at
jolla.com, i.e. on the "Services and Support" page (one reference) and in every Sailfish X installation guide (really all of them):- For the Xperia X series (two references): Linux, Windows, MacOS
- For the Xperia XA2 series (two references): Linux, Windows, MacOS
- For the Xperia 10 series (one reference): Linux, Windows, MacOS
- For the Xperia 10 II (one reference): Linux, Windows, MacOS
- For the Xperia 10 III (one reference): Linux, Windows, MacOS
- … eliminate all references to Aptoide at
docs.sailfishos.org:- On the
Android App Supportpage (four references: two as "Aptoide", one misspelled as "Apptoide" and one in the screenshot of the app-grid) - Delete the complete
Aptoidedirectory - For other occurrences, see the results of this code search.
- On the
Mind that F-Droid.org and the Google Play Store (via Aurora Store app) are the only two major sources of Android apps, which are not significantly compromised by malware, e.g. "fake apps", "typo-squatting apps" etc.
P.S.: Aptoide is well known (since its incarnation in 2011) to host some pirated software, hence it might be legally critical for Jolla / Jollyboys to actively advertise Aptoide.
P.P.S.: See also a similar issue report for APKPure; eliminating both issues in one go likely requires less effort.
