Add ability to supply target

Would be good if you could add a target to the link. _blank for example.

How do you see this working? Define the target when you add the link, or when you execute it?

maybe have both. You can set a default target when you add the link and add a checkbox allowing you to expose a dropdown box in the link panel. If the box is exposed then what you selected when adding is the default option.
