Currently the storage engine information and the session specific information is mashed together. We want to separate these concerns for easier debugging.

Main example: "CurrentParticipant" is initialized in the storage engine, but we use the storage engine outside of studies in many cases, making things like "CurrentParticipant" not make sense.
