This discussion is not related to COSMIC. I'm going to transfer it to the Pop!_OS installer repo.

Before 2022, the installer used to create (and mandate, for custom layouts) a 512MB EFI partition. As the Linux kernel and associated firmware (including NVIDIA's graphics drivers, for NVIDIA users) have grown, 512MB has started having problems with running out of space while installing updates, i.e. when generating new files before the old ones have been deleted. Especially if you might ever want to dual-boot with any other OS's or distros, you're going to want some wiggle room. Our customer service team somewhat routinely has to help people reinstall their OS because the 512MB partition in an older installation was too small, so it really wouldn't make sense to try and skimp on the 1GB recommendation enforced by the GUI installer.

If you'd like to try and do it anyway, you can do so by manually installing with distinst, the backend component of the installer. The 1GB minimum requirement is only part of the GUI frontend.

what /boot mount point files install to /boot/efi mount point is not a good choose.

and, should just give user a warning instead refusing to continue when the EFI partition size is less than 1GB.
in fact for me, normally, 300MB EFI partition(/boot/efi mount point, not /boot mount point) is enough for all other distributions.

There is no choice. Kernels and their associated initramfs must be in /boot/efi in order to use the kernel's EFISTUB feature with systemd-boot. The contents of /boot are not relevant in this environment. You're thinking of distributions that are still using the legacy GRUB bootloader.
