When we plan a recording in Opencast and embed that in Moodle before the event has started, users just see an error message until the recording is available as a video.

For a recording with live streaming we get No such HLS stream: the video is not available until the stream starts. After the stream has finished we get Error loading video until the recording has been uploaded and fully processed. For videos without live streaming we have just the latter problem.

Describe the solution you'd like

The player should show that the video/stream is not available yet. For live streams a countdown would be nice. For when a recording is not yet available as a video maybe this information:

• title
• start time
• end time

Describe alternatives you've considered

The alternatives for us would be:

1. Teachers have to restrict the pages where these videos are embedded to only be available when the stream starts (for live streams) or a certain time after the recording has finished (to give it time to upload and process the recording).
2. Only let teachers embed recordings after they are uploaded and processed. This is already what we do for regular videos that are uploaded to Opencast. This would not work well with live streaming, I guess.
