The vomnibar, while awesome, is a bit awkard to navigate if you don't want to select the first entry, since you need to use the arrow keys.

You could of course type more to get the entry you want to be the first, but sometimes this is not very convenient.
Suggestion: when in the vomnibar, after pressing tab to highlight an entry, switch out of insert mode and allow navigating the entries with J/K.

It's undiscoverable, but <c-j> and <c-k> work too.

I'm not sure that's a great idea, @theduke. It would interfere with other aspects of the Vomnibar works.

If you have custom search engines set up correctly, then this works currently...

  • Open the Vomnibar, type some query such as BBC Sport and hit Enter.
  • Open the Vomnibar and type Tab twice. The Vomnibar is populated with your previous query, and you can add Tennis (or whatever) to the end.

Your idea would break this use case.
