There is a class of measurement problems (in DNS and other domains) that requires a small amount of logic in tying together measurement primitives like ping,traceroute,dig
When you need to orchestrate these in a time sensitive matter, it really matters where you have your logic tying together measurement primitives. (see Shane's Atlas-shrugged as an example of tying together multiple things in Atlas to make a logical measurement out of multiple primitives)
some problems a DSL for measurement can solve:
Some brainstorming at a CAIDA workshop in May lead to the idea this might work with Lua as language (because of it's ease of embedding)
Emile and Rafaele were at that workshop and want to hack on this
