First of all: I really like your idea! About the commenting.. would it be reasonable to create a PR to comment? There could be a server functionality which merges PRs automatically as long as they only change the comment folder?

While we don't want to tie any features of gitgeist to GitHub or any other major Git hosting provider, I still hope we'll find a way for people to use them to host their repositories. If we do that, people would be free to deal with their repositories as they see fit. In the realm of what would be possible on GitHub, I can imagine that some people would like to moderate comments using Pull Requests.
