OK, I think I've reviewed all of these tickets. #5110 is intended to address #2610. I would prefer not to add functionality to request orcids from users that don't have accounts in this PR. I think Joe is right it requires all the co-author confirmation business and I think it runs into the additional FrozenAuthor issues we were talking about. Certainly a workable problem but may require more discussions between us to ensure we've covered all the cases.

I do think I can add a little bit more to the journal submission interface

1. Add to the author submission form where it says "No Orcid" the same button that's in the profile to request an orcid (and also display the orcid with confirmation status) for users that have accounts

2. And add orcid confirmation status to the author listing

I'll also make sure there are tests for #4751 #2609 and #3973

I think the last one already has a test and is fixed (not by me) but I'll verify.

And I'll take a look at adding it to crossref. I haven't looked at that code before since we use our own plugin. Which I'll also update.

OK, these sound good. What might help is to add appropriate fields to the frozen author record and modify the core.models.snapshot_as_author function so that the orcid and verification status are brought over from the account and can persist regardless of how the account is changed.

Finally, for end-user display, there is the public article page display in templates/common/elements/journal/article_author_display.html. Though this only on the r-v1.8.x branch, not master, and it needs to be adjusted to bring it inline with the display guidelines anyway, so feel free to leave that and it can be changed after this PR.

Thanks for the tests and also yes, putting the authentication status in Crossref article deposits would be super if you can.
