User stories

As a new visitor to the OLH Journals page:

  • I do not have a clear overview of what subjects OLH journals cover
  • I may have difficulty scrolling the long list of journals while browsing for something that interests me

Proposed solution

The journals page is the most high-visibility page on the entire site, and it is how librarians understand what we do. As the journals page grows, we want to redesign it carefully and make sure the solution works for several distinct use cases.

Plan:

  • do some basic user research to identify distinct use cases for this page, like known-item searching vs. unknown-item browsing
  • work with a designer to come up with a design that makes it more cognitively manageable, to get an overview of the content of our journals
  • consider a filter menu that lets you filter journals by pre-determined subject area, potentially using standardized subject headings used by library discovery systems
