If you want an agent to run on its own every morning or every week, you can now
schedule it without wiring up a working directory first. A scheduled automation
is a saved prompt that fires an agent session on a recurring rule, and it now
covers the tasks that touch no code at all, like a daily research digest, a
weekly summary, or a chat-only check-in.

Setting one up used to mean pinning both a connected host and an existing
workspace on it, even when the run never opened a repo. Now the workspace is
optional, and so is the host. Leave the workspace off and the run starts in the
host's home directory. Leave the host off and the automation runs on whichever
of your machines is online when it fires, so the schedule keeps working as you
move between devices. If nothing is online at fire time, the run is recorded as
a failed run so you can see it happened rather than wondering why nothing ran.

{/* DEMO REQUIRED: 15–30s recording or light/dark screenshot pair, realistic data. No sanitized mockups. Suggested: creating a chat-only "daily research digest" automation in the Automations dialog with no workspace or host set, then the row showing "Next run in ..." */}

Open Automations in the sidebar, create a task, and give it a name, a prompt,
and a recurrence, then pick a model and reasoning effort if you want to override
the agent's defaults. You can leave the workspace and host fields empty for
non-code work. Each task row shows when it will next run and offers a "Run now"
action to fire it immediately. Agents can also manage their own recurring runs
with the built-in `sys_scheduled_task_create` tool, where `workspace` and
`host_id` are now optional:

```
sys_scheduled_task_create(
 name="daily research digest",
 prompt="Summarize what's new in my field today.",
 rrule="FREQ=DAILY;BYHOUR=9;BYMINUTE=0",
 agent_id="",
)
```

For the full field reference and recurrence-rule syntax, see the
[Scheduled Tasks guide](/docs/build/scheduled-tasks).
