I would like noctalia-greeter theme sync to not require a password more than once per wayland session.

Motivation / use case

I have to input my password twice at login, and every 1800 seconds after that.

Proposed solution

I am not entirely sure if there is a good solution for this. Perhaps using a persistent daemon with elevated permissions for theme sync, rather than an one-shot job?

Alternatives considered

I am not aware of any possible workarounds outside of noctalia/-greeter. If there are any, I would be happy to try them out.

I think you should be able to handle this via a polkit rule?
Something akin to:

polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) {
    if (action.id == "org.noctalia.greeter.apply-appearance") {
        return polkit.Result.AUTH_ADMIN_KEEP;
    }
});

I have not tested this.

I think I should probably raise this issue in the greeter repository instead, since that's where the sync action is defined with non-*_keep auth:
