Comments:

  • Role
  • Mutual conversations, events (?), … Should be done by related resources?

I'd vote for:

  • showing conversation info in the sidebar instead of blocking modal - to always have important links/info close

  • Having a tab for more detailed events

We have more than enough tabs... Shall we consider merging Details + Shared items, like some messengers do it?

  • On mobile, show in conversation info
  • "View profile" button? In browser
  • Hijack "conversation created" system message with some profile info

I personally like Meta Messenger, it's simple, organized and intuitive.

Show all the time (collapse during call and allow to fold out again)

  • Big avatar
  • Role
  • Pronouns
  • Timezone
  • "Button for shared items"

Show in "Shared items"

  • Mutual conversation

Additional ideas

  • Move shared items to "full tab" like messages search

As discussed in the design review call, it can look something like this:

Expanded After scrolling Upcoming shared meetings Empty view
Image Image Image Image
  • Show a big version of the avatar (80px or 100px depending on screensize)
  • On the top right corner, show 3 dot menu search close
  • Show a full-width avatar, when scrolling the avatar transitions into the 80px avatar
    • Show white action buttons and add a slight gradient on the top of the avatar image to meet contrast ratio requirements

Content:

  • Details
    • Name
    • [role] at [organization] · [pronouns]
    • [location] · [local time]
  • Out of office message expanded always
    • Additional change: Show only the OOO message title above the message input field with a chevron-right icon
    • Clicking on it would open the sidebar instead of expand the message
  • Nice-to-have: Upcoming shared meetings with datetime and relevant group chat (if any). Possibly a follow-up
  • Shared media, files, etc (all 3 + see more)
  • Recent group conversations (3 with most recent activity)
  • Nice-to-have: If there are no shared items, show some action items like Create new text file Upload file or image Create a new poll etc (not in screenshot)

Shared items

Image

  • On clicking "See more" for any of the group conversations all the contents of the sidebar get replaced by the shared items view, which is exactly the same as it is right now, but in the sidebar instead of the modal

During calls

Image

  • "Participants" tab --> "Details"
  • Show recent group conversations
  • Show logged in user first, then the other user

Can we start work on this? If so I'd like to talk about what APIs already exists and which ones are still needed.

Mobile apps are still working on adding similar things to their UI, but I'm closing the Meta ticket for now already to signal the progress.
