I applied this workaround #122 (comment)
This works so far. But it is just a workaround and not a fix. Will this be fixed in the theme or has this been reported to libreoffice upstream?

Thanks for the report.

This seems to have happened due to our recent changes. I'll fix this as soon as possible.

Just in case the info is useful, this is happening in the Calc formula box too:

Formular box is the most prominent, but also affects the button for the active sheet

Got same problem with 20210322-1 on Debian and LO 7.2.

Revert to older release 20200916-0.2 and it work fine with LO.

I have the same problem. Reverting to older release 20200916 works fine with LibreOffice, but it breaks the Gnome Shell for me. Using Adwaita for LibreOffice in the meantime is suitable as a workaround.

Piling on. Calc box and sheet name tab at the bottom as well. This theme is the best I've found, but it's unusable for me due to this calc box issue. Thanks for taking a look.

The issue also affects LibreOffice base, arguably the worst.

I am planning on shipping materia as a default for instantOS , but this makes me seriously reconsider that. Basic apps "not working" really leaves a bad impression for something that is supposed to work out of the box.
I really love the theme though, it's the best contender we currently have for replacing arc as the most reliably good looking theme, I'd love to see this fixed

The last commit in this repo is from May 2021. It does not seem likely that this issue gets fixed. The other day I stumbled over the Qogir theme which is very nice and an easy replacement for Materia from my point of view:

https://github.com/vinceliuice/Qogir-theme

"Qogir is a flat Design theme for GTK 3, GTK 2 and Gnome-Shell which supports GTK 3 and GTK 2 based desktop environments like Gnome, Unity, Budgie, Cinnamon Pantheon, XFCE, Mate, etc.
based on Arc gtk theme"

You might want to check this out.

EDIT:
Others asked about maintenance status for Materia theme on 2. September (#599) and did get no reply from any maintainer. That is a clear sign to me that they are not engaged anymore.

Unfortunately nobody is able to fork and further maintain it?
