Checking signatures on dd/ names would be useful in cases where a Namecoin name is owned by a smart contract, which delegates control of a subdomain to another smart contract. This may be tricky to do properly; I'm guessing the best way to handle this is to use ncdomain in the ncdns repo to find which dd/ names own which subdomains.
