It would be nice to consume less valueable space and provide an option to show the extension near "Lock" and "Power Off/..." menus.

To be honest, I like to have time accessible with just one click, there is an option to hide the time and only show the icon during the time it's not active. If I would manage to get time to implement this I would like to keep both options.
