Moonlight Version

1.6.25

Device Type

webOS TV

Device Model

LG G4

Device OS

webOS24 / 9.2.0-1902

Host OS

Windows

Host Software

Sunshine

Host Setup

Ryzen 7950X, 2x32GB DDR4-6000, RTX4090, Asus B650E-E, Windows 11 Pro

Bug Description

If I choose 5.1 Surround audio in the moonlight app, when moonlight connects to the host, I get the first video frame and the video stream freezes. The host continues to work and inputs are still being sent to it despite the frozen video. I tried various settings both on the TV and in Moonlight, but the video stream works only when audio is set to Stereo.

The TV is connected to a Samsung Q990B soundbar over eARC.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Open Moonlight.
  2. Choose "5.1 Surround" in Audio settings.
  3. Restart Moonlight for the audio setting change to apply.
  4. Select Computer.
  5. Open "Desktop" in the apps list.
  6. Wait for connection to be established.
  7. The PC's desktop shows up and the video stream immediately freezes.

Same issue here, LG C3 webOS24

A useless fix: Set transmit speed below 15000kbps 5.1 audio works fine, also video. But quality is awful.

Probably something related to transmit speed?

webOS24

Currently using Test build 1 because cursor works fine (I don't mind about duplicate cursor).

Same issue here on the LG C4, not sure what the deal is, if no fix is forthcoming, might be worth adding a note in the app that 5.1 is unlikely to work on a LG C4 to prevent people from making the same mistake or coming here just to indicate that they have the same issue

Everything was working fine until yesterday using 5.1 sound. After LG TV WebOS update to version 9.2.1, seeing same issue as reported here:

I experimented with different combinations of settings and could single out the 5.1 vs. stereo setting to be the root cause. In stereo setting, the audio backend ndl-webos5 uses PCM, in 5.1 it uses OPUS.

Before the WebOS update, everything was working fine and absolutely stable (thanks for your amazing work!). So I guess it likely is an issue with something LG did with their recent update and how the app interacts with the audio backend. Unfortunately I cannot provide any previous version information details (took no notes before the update).

Same issue OLED55C2. Weirdly enough it worked a few weeks ago.

Only the very first frame is shown when starting the stream. Disconnecting and reconnecting nets you another new frame.
