Please read. I am looking to bring up a new version of this driver... #26
Comments
Hey there, sorry to hear about Larry. My condolences. I'd like to participate in testing the new driver, currently owning a 7XE70UH and got it working on my Manjaro KDE kernel 6.10.13-3 using the solution from skyer9 at #17 (comment). Will try latest available kernel 6.12.0rc2-2 to see if any improvements are available, since performance is worse than on Win10 in terms of bandwidth and latency. |
Hi @SirSerS Thanks for the reply. I now have the driver. I stood up the private repo this last weekend. I have some patches ready to go in. The driver came from Realtek with support up to kernel 6.6 so I have about a years worth of updates to make to get it ready for kernel 6.12. Give me about a week to make that happen and then I'll look at inviting you into the repo. See you soon. |
I tried to run the experimental kernel 6.12 but i cannot get a X11/Wayland session only terminal, so i'm sticking with 6.10.13-3 till a stable kernel is available. I will try again as soon as we start developing. Also i've managed to bump the upload performance by not removing the usb serial option.ko(.zst) from the kernel ( point 5 from skyer9 guide ). The latency improved as well and i can get the same performance as on Win, but as soon as i even touch the antenna it loses the ability to perform well.. I'm thinking beamforming issue? Dunno yet, anyway thx to you! |
This repo is not what I am using. My site is: https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi You can't see my rtl8852cu repo yet because it is private. Give me a chance to work on it some this week and then I'll send you an invitation so that you have access. |
I recently acquired a CF-975AX adapter and managed to install this driver on an arm64 SBC. I would like to participate in the tests. I also have an armhf laying around to test it as well. Thank you. |
I have added both of you to the new repo. For now it is a private repo because I only want testers involved until the repo is ready for the public. The first few lines of the README contain instructions to get you started. Thanks and see you in the repo. |
Could you add me please, I am using the other driver on ubuntu 24.04 with the latest kernel, lots of errors but it appears to be working. My adapter is: Newfast AX5400. |
@PBXForums Done. Expect an invitation. See you in the repo. |
Hi @morrownr Just wanted to share my condolences. I just googled my way around getting my crappy wifi adapter to work and I've found Larry's work and now this thread. He seemed like a most amazing human. I'm not really a developer, but I do have a RTL8832CU device (0bda:c832), running Tumbleweed. Happy to contribute by testing if that's useful. |
You don't need to be a developer. I am looking for regular users that can install/remove and use the driver. Weekly reports and posting of bugs is also needed. Nothing fancy. What you will find is my support for the Realtek drivers is different and hopefully easier to use. Having a SuSE users is a good thing as you can check the README.md for information specific to SuSE to make sure it is correct and works for you. My support aims to make support available for as many distros as is reasonable. I have sent you an invitation. See you in the repo and thanks. |
@morrownr Can you also get me to the new tests repo, I got the new TP-Link axe5400 wifi 6e usb (Archer TXE70UH) on Ubuntu 24.04 but it didn't work well. Specially the 6GHz. Thx |
I'm sorry man, i have been really busy. Can you send invitation again please? |
Invitations have been sent via email. Read the top part of the README to get started. See you there. |
Hi, My condolences about Larry. I've gotten my hands on an EDUP EP-AX1671S with a Realtek 8852CU. returning it is not an option unfortunately, so if its possible I'd like to join the bug hunting. I'm on an Arch derivative at the moment. Thank you for opening this issue and continuing Larry's work. |
Glad to have you. Check email for an invitation. As you test, I could use a short review of that EP-1671. |
Hi @morrownr , I´d like to give my condolences about Larry. I've aquired a TP-Link Archer TX50UH and #17 solution does detect the dongle but doesn't allow me to connect to my wifi. I don´t know if that's the type of bug you are looking for but I'd gladly help. |
Hello @morrownr, sorry to hear about Larry :( I'm a new owner of a TXE70UH as well, looking to make it work on linux. Can test in a VM and on Baremetal as well. |
Glad to have you join in. Expect an invitation in email. |
Hi @zearp Larry is missed. I hope he is an inspiration to others to get involved and help wireless continue to improve on Linux.
Can I put you in my repo? My repo is private while testing is going on. I prefer only about a dozen testers until it is ready for the public. I can add you name and you will get an email with an invitation. I can work this problem with you. |
Your invitation is on the way. Check your email. Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0bda:c832 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 802.11ax WLAN Adapter The c832 in the above lines tells me that it is the rtl8832cu chip so the repo you are getting the invitation to is the driver you need. See you there. |
I dont know if I am too late to this project but I can help if it is possible. I have 2 usb-modules, both have: 0xc832 so they have a rtl8832cu chip - one is of the brand Fenvi and the other is unknown. Can do tests on linux arm laptops running ubuntu and on Nanopi:s |
I just sent you an invitation. If you need help, let me know. |
I am happy to test the driver. I have a lot of issues getting it to work. https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/719830 It does not work for me at the moment. |
Hi @vincelawdev You have been added to the private repo. Expect an email with instructions. While I have you: The Main Menu for the site is below. Recommended reading to start is menu items 1 and 2: |
Hello, I have bought a Msi AXE5400 wifi adaptor, which was a poor choice. It supposedly has the rtl8852cu chip, but I'm not 100% sure. When using |
Hi @bobmanbob2
I did some research and it appears that you are correct. I just added the ID to the driver.
Testing is still needed. I made the repo public a few days ago: https://github.com/morrownr/rtl8852cu-20240510 Give me a report (in issues) after you test the driver as I have something extra for you to test. Lastly, in the future or if you see others looking for USB WiFi adapters: https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi That is the Main Menu of my github.com site. Reading menu items 1 and 2 is a good idea. See you over in the rtl8852cu repo. |
Larry, Finger, the owner of this site and this repo, passed away a few months ago. I was working with him at the time on a small team to improve the rtw88 in-kernel series of drivers. That work has continued and as of kernel 6.12, rtw88 is much better. Also, new drivers to go in rtw88 for the rtl8812au and rtl8821/11au chips is under review and will likely find their way into kernel 6.13.
Now to the point for those with adapters based on the rtl8852/32cu. I am expecting to get a copy of the latest source soon. At that point, I will start a new repo over at my site and will be looking for testers. I like to keep repos private while working so I need to be able to contact those that want to help by testing. I will add a message here when the new repo is ready for testing.
If you want to test, please reply to this message.
