What happened?

It seems that when the stations list is 10 lines larger than the screen size (i.e. when opening the station list popup shows at least 10 stations after the scroll point), if you start a radio and then scroll the list in a way that that the name of the radio currently played is hidden before closing the popup, then next time you will click on the applet icon, the radio will get changed to the last of the list, before the station list popup even appears.
