Description

Under its domestic law, Japan has established EEZ corridors in the relevant straits. The same method has been used by many Baltic Sea coastal states (Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Estonia) in their adjacent straits. For this reason, the Marine Regions’ data is incorrect in relation to many Baltic straits.

[..] the maritime zones of the Russian Federation in the Gulf of Finland is incorrect. It depicts a Russian EEZ in an area under Russia’s territorial sea. There is a tiny Russian EEZ in the Gulf of Finland north of Gogland Island established by maritime boundary agreements between Finland and the Soviet Union. It would be correct to depict that EEZ in the Gulf of Finland instead. The area of the Gulf of Finland between Estonia and Finland includes an EEZ corridor as well (not shown on [...] Marine Regions
