Description

One area it appears wasn't updated was the Gulf of Fonseca, per ICJ case 75, concluded in 1992

@salvafern
Some findings:
A summary in DOALOS: https://www.un.org/Depts/los/LEGISLATIONANDTREATIES/PDFFILES/TREATIES/SLV-HND1992FD.pdf

My vision after some research:

  • Internal waters and baseline: the case of 1992 states that the internal waters of the gulf are managed by the three countries
  • Territorial seas and EEZ: The case of 1992 leave for the three countries to decide on the maritime boundary. Currently there is a treaty between Honduras and Nicaragua but cannot find the text online. If we can find it, we included. In any case, there is no treaty yet between Honduras and El Salvador, hence I would draw median lines, but taking into account how the case of 1992 splited the sovereignty of the islands of the gulf. One of the islands (Conejo) is under dispute, therefore I would remove it for the calculation of the median line. (source)
