"whatever terminal I'm running" + tmux has been really good for a while, but tmux's incompatibility with how patat renders images has been a challenge for a while. I've worked around it with additional terminal processes, but I'd really like to be able to take advantage of multi-image slides with eval

Try configuring a few terminals to look/feel like what I get out of tmux, but without being tmux:

  • wezterm
  • kitty (drawback -- graphical only I think, I don't think I can run it inside another terminal)
  • iterm (requires linux / macos config split and I'd still need to find something for the linux side)

On closer look it looks like this might work as long as the multiplexer supports sixel. tmux doesn't, but zellij does, so if I can learn to configure zellij close enough to tmux (and I don't really have to care about session stuff because I only ever use one session anyway...) then I think there might be an easier solution that doesn't rely on caring about which terminal emulator I'm using.
