not hearing transition music before dying

Three times yesterday and today, I didn't hear transition music before dying (although in another life I did hear it).

And these were lives where you died at age 60, correct?

Okay, I've been looking at the code for what can suppress the music, and I'm not seeing anything.

Any other details that might pinpoint it?

Were you hungry or full?

Hunger chimes are supposed to suppress the music, but NOT if you are elderly and listening to your final music.

Any other long-sounds that might have been playing around that time, like rocket launch stuff?

I've also had lives where random sounds didn't play, like the tilling sound wasn't playing at all. I don't think it's specifically realted to music, it's related to certain sounds not loading

Yeah, that might be a different issue.

I think there's something in the code that causes music to be suppressed sometimes and not come back.

Anyway, if there's any more info from The Jeneral about the situation where this happens...

One thing to note is that if you're end-of-life song is playing, and you witness a rocket ride, your music keeps playing (silently) in the background, but your life is extended by 38 seconds (so you don't die while watching the rocket animation). This can make it seem like your end-of-life music ends 38 seconds early (because it already started playing, and then your life was extended).

If you were to watch like 2x rocket launches in a row, after your end-of-life music was started, then your life would be extended by 136 seconds.... that's a lot of silence at the end of your life with no music.

Very weird about the hoe sound...

Going to space shouldn't change anything, especially not after restarting the client. Hmm...

Actually, if it's one specific sound that you've seen not play on multiple occasions (like multiple runs of the client, making hoes doesn't make sound), lemme know, and I can give you a test build that will have debugging info printed around that one sound.

As it turns out, the steel hoe has NEVER made a sound upon creation. I went back through the whole history of that object on github. It's always been a silent one... I just forgot to add a sound to it.

It should have started around 53:50 in the video if I remember correctly, but no song played. From what I remember no songs played that life.

One sanity test:

If you go into the SETTINGS panel and drag the music loudness slider around, what happens? That's supposed to load the sound from 10 years old and play it to give you a sample of music loudness.

Also, after a life when you live to old age and hear no ending song, go back out to the SETTINGS panel and try dragging the slider around. Is music still blocked there?

You hear the music for the pre-launch from far away, but then don't hear the launch music itself. That's a known bug that I've fixed (pushing it out today), where if someone jumps in the rocket too quickly, before the first song ends, the first song blocks the second song from playing.

However, these are technically "long sounds" and not music.... there's a separate music engine that plays music... and whenever a long sound is playing, the music fades out temporarily, and fades back in after. But long sounds also block each other...

So it's weird that long sounds are playing in that video, but NOT life music.

Sorry just seeing these-but today I did hear music in the lives I played. I'll check again tomorrow, but back to the 9-5 ;) so will be less. Thanks Twisted for finding it too!
