Contribute!

This website is hooked up to this Google Spreadsheet, which I've shared, so click and add your favorite hack spots to the bottom of the list! For the map you'll need to get the lat and long of the spot, you can get that here. The locating of these places is helpful, so please try to fill out all the columns.

Info

This is an experiment, forked from @JLLORD's original hack-spots resource. Her original rationale: "When I'm visiting a new city I'd like to know which coffee shops have the best vibes, great coffee and are good for hunkering down and having a good hack. Yelp will tell you where the Starbucks is and Foursquare will tell you where your friend's have been - but did they like it and was it a grab in go place or a hack place? Plus, what about the people I don't follow on Foursquare or who can't check-in when in other countries?"

I've been thinking about how best to solve this for a while. I've tried Google Maps (which was a little easier to use before the new iteration) and other apps (notably Work Hard Anywhere). There are other ways of making this kind of resource available, so now I'm thinking about what else I might use this for. Maybe a fork specifically for my community of writers and poets. Something that opens up the definition of a hack-spot beyond cafés to any location that's good for getting writing done (when sometimes not having any wifi is actually a virtue). Or even more than that— an international list of recommended reading spots and open mics...

All the above is to say that the paint's still wet here, while I figure a few things out. Feel free to help me test by inputting your favourite spots in here, and I'll adjust as it goes. I may tear it down complete and replace it with something that's adapted more to our best use, but I won't have a clear sense of that best use for a while. So please do contribute and help me figure it out.

Fork-n-Go

If you're interested in doing something like this for yourself, see readme. It really isn't that hard to do.
