cycle through previous search inputs

I am recent Telescope switcher and I must say I am beyond impressed by FzfLua. Not sure what took me so long...

Ok, so there is a nice feature in Telescope where you can go back through your 'prompt history' (for lack of a better term). Think of it as FzfLua resume on steriods.

For instance, I would live_grep something, then in the live-grep modal, I would be able to recall the previous strings I live-grep'ed (and cycle backward/forward... can't remember how many it saved, but maybe the last 10 or so...). Same for finding a file... Basically every single modal had its history which was extremely convenient.

With Telescope, my mapping would include:

	["<C-j>"] = require("telescope.actions").cycle_history_next,
	["<C-k>"] = require("telescope.actions").cycle_history_prev,

It's extremely convenient.

Any way I could replicate this with FzfLua ?

Is there a way to prevent the input written when in fuzzy find mode to be put into the list? Using live_grep as a picker.

Say I search for "hello" using live_grep. I then hit ctrl + g to fuzzy find over the results. I type "world" in the fuzzy finder. Now the history has both my grep string "hello" and my fzf string "world".

The settings for grep are inherited by both live grep and grep (fuzzy), maybe you can remove the history under setup for grep set the live_grep keybind for live grep with its own separate fzf_opts? Let me know if this doesn’t work I’ll look into it.

This doesn't seem to work @ibhagwan I've tried with the following function:
require("fzf-lua").live_grep({ fzf_opts = { ["--history"] = vim.fn.stdpath("data") .. "/fzf-lua-grep-history", }, })

And the result seems to be the same. This isn't something that is a deal breaker for me or anything, I was just curious about it.

What do you mean doesn’t work, you press ctrl-p/n and nothing happens? This is an fzf setting, it’s not broken or there would be an issue here or upstream about it.

Sorry for not being clearer in my reply.
pressing ctrl-p/n does work, it just includes the input from the fzf part also, not just the live_grep part.

I was referring to removing the history under setup and adding it to the function call in my keybind.

Open a feature request issue to exclude the history from grep and I’ll look into this if not possible I’ll separate the settings for grep and live grep so they don’t mix.
