Godpowers Code Audit

  • [DECISION] This is the post-remediation audit of branch codex/product-trust-hardening for the 5.3.0 release source on 2026-07-13.

Snapshot

  • [DECISION] Godpowers is a public Node.js 18-plus CommonJS CLI, prompt-skill distribution, local workflow runtime, and read-only MCP companion.
  • [DECISION] The reviewed tree contains 98 top-level runtime modules, 122 skills, 40 specialist agents, 13 workflows, and 44 intent recipes.
  • [DECISION] Review coverage included installer writes, CLI dispatch, Quick Proof, host detection, evidence commands, file-backed state, generated views, event-derived metrics, Pillars synchronization, packaging, and tag-triggered publication.
  • [DECISION] All nine product-trust gaps and all six code-audit findings identified during independent review were traced to tests and verified fixes.

Overall Score

97/100, Grade A

  • [DECISION] The release source is cohesive, dependency-light, fail-closed, broadly tested, and internally consistent.
  • [DECISION] No unresolved code finding blocks publication.
  • [DECISION] The remaining three points represent browser-host integration depth and production outcome evidence that local source review cannot prove.
Dimension Score Grade Weight Verdict
Security 98 A 20% [DECISION] Release identity, immutable workflow dependencies, local path containment, and provenance controls are explicit.
Architecture and Design 98 A 15% [DECISION] Runtime, state, generated views, routing, packaging, and audit responsibilities have clear module boundaries.
Code Quality and Maintainability 97 A 15% [DECISION] Durable context parsing, package identity, and release invariants are centralized and tested.
Testing and Verification 98 A 15% [DECISION] Aggregate and authoritative per-file coverage gates run with the full behavioral suite and self-truth checks.
Error Handling and Resilience 96 A 10% [DECISION] Release checks fail closed on stale hashes, reduced state, stale generated bodies, package mismatch, or invalid tag ancestry.
Performance and Efficiency 95 A 8% [DECISION] Synchronous work remains bounded to interactive local CLI paths and capability probes have timeouts.
Dependencies and Supply Chain 98 A 7% [DECISION] The root has zero production dependencies, the audit is clean, workflows are pinned, and npm provenance is enabled.
Documentation and Drift 98 A 5% [DECISION] Public counts, source version, proof modes, security series, planning provenance, and Pillars agree.
Observability and Operability 95 A 5% [DECISION] Outcome metrics are evidence-derived and trace-bound, while unavailable production outcomes remain unavailable.
Weighted overall 97 A 100% [DECISION] The release source is approved.

What To Fix First

  • [DECISION] No confirmed unresolved code finding remains in the authorized 5.3.0 scope.
  • [OPEN QUESTION] Production adoption and live rollback evidence should be collected after publication without weakening the no-data policy.

Strengths To Preserve

  • [DECISION] lib/atomic-write.js and lib/state.js keep canonical state writes atomic and regenerate human-readable views.
  • [DECISION] lib/self-project-truth.js enumerates 19 required lifecycle steps, validates canonical artifacts and hashes, and compares generated bodies with current state.
  • [DECISION] scripts/check-per-file-coverage.js enumerates the expected runtime inventory before accepting coverage output.
  • [DECISION] lib/router.js rejects absolute, null-containing, and escaping project-relative paths.
  • [DECISION] lib/host-capabilities.js separates installed host metadata from active-session evidence.
  • [DECISION] lib/quick-proof.js makes fixture proof and current-project inspection distinct modes.
  • [DECISION] lib/outcome-metrics.js correlates proposals and acceptance by trace identity.
  • [DECISION] package.json places coverage, audit, self-truth, and both package checks behind one release command.

Systemic Patterns

  • [DECISION] Authoritative inventories now precede validation for runtime modules, lifecycle steps, artifacts, and generated views.
  • [DECISION] Cross-context identity is explicit for metrics traces, package versions, release tags, and merged-main ancestry.
  • [DECISION] Durable generated context is derived from labeled artifacts and preserves complete multi-line decisions.
  • [DECISION] Source-tree documentation derives version truth from package identity rather than clone-local tags.

Resolved Findings

Finding Prior severity Resolution Verification
TEST-001 High [DECISION] Coverage includes lib/runtime-test.js and rejects any missing expected module. [DECISION] The gate reports 96 of 96 expected modules above 70% lines.
TEST-002 Medium [DECISION] Self-truth requires all lifecycle steps, canonical artifacts, hashes, and current generated bodies. [DECISION] Six behavioral tests cover aligned, stale, missing, reduced, and drifted states.
OBS-001 Medium [DECISION] Proposal queues are keyed and consumed by matching trace ID. [DECISION] Interleaved cross-trace acceptance is rejected by regression tests.
ERR-001 Medium [DECISION] Repository documentation uses source package version instead of ambient Git tags. [DECISION] Documentation and surface tests pass in the final tree.
QUAL-001 Medium [DECISION] Durable-signal extraction preserves continuation lines until a real block boundary. [DECISION] Multi-line Pillars extraction and synchronization tests pass.
DOC-001 Low [DECISION] Current-project proof omits fixture manifest, commands, path, and rendering. [DECISION] Quick Proof passes 24 behavioral and documentation checks.

Verification Evidence

  • [DECISION] npm run release:check passes.
  • [DECISION] Aggregate coverage is 94.69% lines, 79.48% branches, and 96.85% functions.
  • [DECISION] Per-file line coverage is at least 70% across 96 expected non-browser runtime modules.
  • [DECISION] Self-project truth passes 141 checks with zero failures.
  • [DECISION] The full test runner passes in 39.8 seconds on the audited workstation.
  • [DECISION] Root package validation covers 577 files and MCP validation covers 8 files.

Scope And Limitations

  • [DECISION] The audit examined all changed runtime and release paths and representative unchanged code across each trust boundary.
  • [DECISION] The audit did not claim production users, live connector access, or a real incident rollback.
  • [HYPOTHESIS] Published-install verification and unaffiliated production use can raise confidence further but do not expose a current source defect.

How To Use This Report

  1. [DECISION] Preserve the authoritative-inventory and explicit-identity patterns in future changes.
  2. [DECISION] Run the full release gate before every tag.
  3. [DECISION] Add a regression test before changing a release invariant.
  4. [DECISION] Keep unavailable operational outcomes explicit until recorded evidence exists.
