Sentry SDK for .NET v5.0.0 Release

Hey everyone! We’ve just released version 5.0.0 of the Sentry SDK for .NET. This version includes some important changes, removals, and new features. We would love your feedback!

Here’s a summary of some of the big changes:

New Features

• .NET 9 Support: We’ve added support for .NET 9. (#3699)
• Heap Dumps: Automatically capture heap dumps when memory usage exceeds a configurable threshold. This is experimental and we’d love your input! (#3667)
• Android Page Size Support: Support for 16 KB page sizes on Android. (#3723)

API Changes

• Target Frameworks: Removed net6.0 and net7.0 TFMs as these are no longer supported. If you need those, please continue using version 4.x of the SDK. (#3807)
• Metrics Removal: The experimental Metrics feature has been removed. (#3718)
• Tracing Configuration: SentryOptions.EnableTracing has been removed. You should use SentryOptions.TracesSampleRate or SentryOptions.TracesSampler to configure tracing. (#3569)
• Session Replay: Session Replay has been temporarily removed (we’ll re-enable this as soon as possible). (#3827)
• Profiling Integration: options.AddProfilingIntegration() can now be used to enable performance profiling. (#3660)
• Android Initialization: AndroidContext should no longer be passed as an argument to SentrySdk.Init. (#3562)
• User Segment: SentryUser.Segment is deprecated; use tags or other data properties instead. (#3563)
• Trace Context Origin: ITraceContext now includes an Origin property set automatically for internal use. (#3564)
• Device Fields as Float: Device.BatteryLevel and Device.ProcessorFrequency are now floats. (#3567)
• Option List Types: FailedRequestTargets, TagFilters, and TracePropagationTargets now use IList instead of SubstringOrRegexPattern. (#3566)
• Global Mode Transaction Storage: Scope.Transaction is now always stored via AsyncLocal to ensure spans are parented correctly across tasks. (#3596)

Fixes

• AOT Support & MAUI: Addressed trim warnings for AOT scenarios, including .NET MAUI. (#3841)
• Android Stability: Fixed JNI errors and improved logcat.log attachment on Android. (#3802, #3694)
• Form Data Handling: Fixed ArgumentNullException in FormRequestPayloadExtractor for invalid form data. (#3734)
• Null & Out-of-Range Checks: Fixed NullReferenceException in SentryTraceHeader and ArgumentOutOfRangeException in OpenTelemetry span IDs. (#3757, #3850)
• NLog Compatibility: Fixed crash with FailedRequestStatusCodes in a Maui app with trimming enabled. (#3743)
