Could provide a .reg file for the user to double-click and do the assignment.
From inside the app could have a menu action that generates in temp and launches (shell execute) that .reg file.

Could even do with fine Delphi registry access API and do it automatically at launch of app or even detect it's not assigned to the app and prompt the user if they want to assign (maybe with option to not ask again).
