Use full name for competitors instead of firstname and lastname? #21

There are few issues with full_name = first_name + last_name:

  • For Hungarians it's full_name = last_name + first_name
  • Some people don't have last names
  • Some people don't have first names
  • ...

What do we need the separation between first and last name for?

Hm. Yeah good point, never really thought of it. I think the only place where I use it is for sorting (sorting by last name makes sense for the checklist, because many families (same last name) arrive together and then it's easier to find people).

I'm okay with changing it to only one name field and then hacking something (split, reverse, sort) for the checklist...

Looks like the WCA db also stores it as one field

I see no issue with only one field. In the database, it is one string
anyways. :)
