Describe the feature you'd like to see
As of right now, clicking on the name of a task in a checklist will mark it as completed instead of the intended/desired action of wanting to quickly rename the checklist item. (One could/would assume that only clicking the actual checkbox would result in the item being marked as completed, instead of clicking the name also doing that action.)
It seems reasonable that there would be a certain number of people who prefer the current behavior of clicking anywhere on the task would check that item off (as is the case now).
However, I do think there's a more sizable number of people that are familiar with other task/productivity applications who would just like to quickly edit/rename the checklist item when clicking on the text of the item, and to only "check" the item as complete when clicking the actual checkbox itself.
A number of todo applications have this edit by default behavior when clicking on the task's name/text:
- Todoist
- Vikunja
- Planka
- (I'm sure many more that I haven't tried as of late)
Wireframes or mockups (optional)
Option 1
Settings Dashboard > User Preferences > Checklist Preference > "Default action on click"
Dropdown Options:
- Mark as complete
- Edit task name
"Mark as complete" would behave as normal and allow you to mark the task as complete.
"Edit task name" would immediately put you into edit mode where you clicked. You would need to specifically click the checkbox to mark the checklist item as complete.
Option 2
Settings Dashboard > User Preferences > Checklist Preference > "Mark as complete target"
Dropdown Options:
- Checkbox and checklist name
- Checkbox only
"Checkbox and checklist name" would be current behavior, where clicking the checklist name would complete it.
"Checkbox only" would require the user to click the actual checkbox to mark it as complete.
