How exactly does custom context work?

I've been working with Ignition for a little while now and it largely fills my needs for debugging and documenting my project. However, I can't seem to make custom context do anything. I've added Flare::context and Flare::group calls and set up a middleware to add context to certain reports. None of these has produced any evident change in the report.
