[preferences] placement is confusing. It appears as a subsection in [esphome] top level component, between two other sub-components. But [preferences] is a top-level configuration section, not a sub-section of [esphome]. The config example given is correct (no "esphome:" above it), but the placement of the documentation section is misleading. It should have a separate page.
