$EDITOR race is still happening

Without coming across as too frustrated, most of the issues with sui are related to the TUI toolkit not supporting async operation and all the workarounds I have had to employ to "make it work".

There's a really good argument for gutting the TUI library, and I'm trying to bury my head in the sand because the options aren't very good and I don't want to write my own.
