Problem

No auto power on/off feature.

Proposal

As a user of Elementary OS, I have found it to be a sleek and efficient operating system that focuses on simplicity and usability. However, one feature that I believe would greatly enhance the user experience is the implementation of automatic power management options, specifically the ability to schedule automatic power off or power on events.

Introducing an automatic power management feature would provide users with greater control over their system's energy consumption and uptime. Here's why I believe this feature would be a valuable addition:

  1. Energy Efficiency: With scheduled power off functionality, users can set their computers to automatically shut down at specific times, such as at night or when they are not in use. This would help conserve energy and reduce electricity costs, especially for users who may forget to manually shut down their systems.

  2. Convenience: Scheduled power on functionality would enable users to have their computers ready and waiting for them at specific times. For instance, users could schedule their computers to power on in the morning before they start their workday, ensuring that their system is up and running when they need it.

  3. Customization: The ability to customize the schedule for automatic power off and power on events would allow users to tailor the feature to their individual preferences and routines. Whether it's setting a daily shutdown time or scheduling a weekly power on event, this flexibility would accommodate a variety of user needs.

  4. Productivity: For users who rely on their computers for work or other activities, having the option to automatically power on their systems at specific times can streamline their workflow and improve productivity. Instead of waiting for the system to boot up manually, users can dive straight into their tasks as soon as their computer powers on.

Overall, the addition of automatic power management features to Elementary OS would complement its user-friendly design philosophy and enhance the overall user experience. By empowering users to customize their system's power behavior according to their preferences and schedules, Elementary OS can further solidify its position as a top choice for users seeking a reliable and efficient operating system.
