What Happened?

Updates of various flatpak system-components, presented in 'available updates' in AppCenter, fail permanently.
The update succeeds when doing a 'flatpak update' in terminal.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. AppCenter reports available update of a system component
  2. Click on 'Update'
  3. AppCenter reports an error on the update
  4. In Terminal run 'flatpak update'
  5. Update succeeds without an error (last time it was org.freedesktop.Platform.openh264 that had to be updated)

Expected Behavior

AppCenter should do the update without errors

OS Version

8.x (Circe)

Session Type

Classic Session (X11, This is the default)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

Log Output

No response

Hardware Info

No response

I reproduced this.

The AppCenter "Repair" option didn't work. Only when I ran "flatpak update" the update completed successfully.

AppCenter failed

flatpak update succeeds

system: elementary OS 8

I have some similar problem. After installing the OS I started updating. Everything seems to be OK, but after downloading the update I see information about the update in the appstore. When I try to click to install it I get the message: "Program update failure. This may be due to manually compiled software obtained from third parties or a package manager error. Manually refreshing the update may fix this problem". Expanding the details section shows the message: "Aborted due to failure (While applying additional data: The "apply extra" script failed, exit status 256". My question? Is this a bug? Or something else? #2236

Having the exact same issue since I moved to Elementary 8 a couple days ago, came here to report and I see it's already listed... hope they fix it soon

There is always a manual upgrade in the terminal via apt upgrade.

I know (see my initial post), but that's not the way things should go.
And BTW, this issue doesn't concern to apt (in my case it's a flatpak issue).
