Weather data from Italy (Meteonetwork)

I just wanted to mention the excellent https://github.com/guidocioni/meteonetwork project by @guidocioni here. Cheers! Maybe the code can be used to bring a corresponding ingress adapter to Wetterdienst, if you like that idea?

Technically it should be really easy to do this, as we already have a set of APIs to do most of the requests (besides archived data).
But, as the individual user needs to register anyway to get an API key, do you think it would make the process easier than just use the provided code?

I think wetterdienst was born to simplify the process of downloading data from DWD, which has no proper API but just a collection of data files, by implementing a kind of "local" API. In this case it may be worth it to just use the API directly, wetterdienst may just add another level of complexity which is probably not needed.

Just my 2 cents :) What do you think?

Honestly it started for the DWD with that but I think it's not too bad to have other weather services as well in there who already provide a nice rest API but no interface within python. Also I've seen that mostly weather services follow the same logic that we also picked up - providing some interface to metadata and some other interface to actual values.

If the API is already good then it wouldn't be too much of hassle for us and for the enduser it would just mean another import statement et voila, they'd have access to italian weather data as well.

ah sure, you're free to explore the Apis endpoint by reusing my repo or just write your own request if you want 😛

When talking about weather data and Italy, you should not forget mistral.
I think the data provided by @guidocioni via meteonetwork is available on this platform , too.

Yes it is. But it also goes in the other direction :)
We have an ongoing agreement with mistral to provide them data of our stations and we get their data as well in our network.
Thus, in theory, both datasets should be identical.

From experience, however, I've seen a LOT of outliers and weird data in their datasets because I suspect the regional agencies don't perform basic quality check on the raw data that they send. We are implementing a new outliers detection model right now, but it's not operational yet.

Furthermore, their API is really bad and hard to use programmatically, at least from my point of view.

It was a really good project when it started but, as most things in the Italian meteorological panorama, is slowly sinking into the sea of bureaucracy and regional districts weirdness :(
