I have to admit the documentation could be improved. Let me know if I missed to find a concise example/walkthrough. Nevertheless, let's just go ahead and exercise it on behalf on an example.

Example 1: Stationsdaten

Let's say we are interested in "station-based" observation data for now.

Walkthrough

By inquiring the list of available datasets [1], we can, for example, focus on the klima-v1-1d dataset. By requesting the corresponding endpoint [2], it tells us which query arguments are expected: parameters, station_ids, start, end.

By following what the browser is doing, we found that corresponding metadata (the list of available measurement parameters) can be inquired at [3] and the list of available stations for the corresponding dataset at [4].

With this information at your disposal, it is possible to generate a full URL to the data you are aiming at. At least some datasets can be requested both in CSV and GeoJSON formats, so we are presenting both variants here. The parameters and station_ids have been selected randomly.

It looks like each resource can be also filtered, at least some of them. For example, the "list of stations" endpoint accepts filtering by attribute, like [5].

Personally, I would also be interested to filter by lat/lon/alt here. However, in order to describe a bounding box, parameters like lat_min, lat_max, lon_min, lon_max would be needed here.
