Weather information from Ukraine and Czechia

thank you so much for your input at #332, we really appreciate it. Now that we already said hello and assuming that you like what we are doing here, I am humbly reaching out to you about another question on a more general aspect.

Attaching to #282, #284, #285, #299 and #303, I am taking the chance to ask you if you know something about any open data sites where weather data from the domestic weather agencies of Ukraine and/or Czechia might be gathered from?

While we are not there yet, we are in the phase of preparing to bring some proof of concepts into place in order to expand the outreach of Wetterdienst into that area beyond just ingesting data from @DeutscherWetterdienst (DWD).

If you know something about it, we won't have to do the research on our own and might attach to that information as soon as we are ready to bring in more adapters to other weather agencies [1]. So, thank you very much in advance!

[1] If you actually know about any projects which already have some Python code around for accessing those, similar to the code by @Zeitsperre outlined within #282, it would be even better ;].

I Andreas, I don't know much about this topic. You'll probably end up needing to scrape something like https://meteo.gov.ua/en/33345/radar for Ukraine. Maybe @MaxymVlasov knows something...

And I don't really know anything about the sources in the Czech Republic. Maybe @mkrizek would know.

Dear Sviatoslav and Maksym,

thanks for your quick response. Indeed, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center [1] and the Gismeteo API [2] might be candidates to look into and get accustomed with the products they are offering.

Specifically, we are looking at open data provided by the domestic weather agencies which usually (at the best case) are also offering historical data and raw data access.

The Wetterdienst package is being conceived for both scientists and end users. While for the latter, access to the known weather APIs out there might be sufficient, the scientists definitively want to be able to analyze historical data. Wetterdienst fills this niche to enable them to focus on their data pipelines instead of having to do the boring work of getting hold of the data beforehand.

Maybe this clarifies a bit more in which area Wetterdienst is trying to fill a gap: Acquire data from an API or a raw data server (HTTP/FTP) and return curated Pandas DataFrames by providing both a concise API interface and a command line program, both with a unified interface across different weather agencies.
