MobInfo2 doesn't update its database; search doesn't return proper info

As far as I can tell the info that shows up when you mouseover a mob is correct. I just killed a "Venom Web Spider:19" and it dropped crisp spider meat. When I then moused over it again, it showed me crisp spider meat as one of its items that could drop.

However, in the "Search" tab, when I search for "venom" it doesn't even show up in the list.

When I log out, the "SavedVariables/MobInfo2-Classic.lua" file is updated so that seems to be working. It seems that the search functionality is ... simply searching something else, or it's broken?

Is this correct? While all the data in MobInfo2-Classic.lua looks good the MobInfo2.lua file has a bunch of nil settings:

I now realize that I had tried a different non-working "MobInfo2" before finding your version. I just deleted the different-version LUA files out of SavedVariables.

I then logged in and saw a green recluse lvl 22. It didn't show up in the 'search'. I killed it, it dropped [Spider Ichor]. Now when I mouse over "green recluse" it shows spider ichor as a possible drop. However, from the MobInfo window, when I search for "green" nothing shows up.

When I search for "spider" under "item name", then I can see spider ichor, and, when I mouse over it, I see "green recluse 1/1" so ... its showing there, just not when filtering on "mob name"

@TheRealHypo I made one final test.

• deleted SavedVariables/MobInfo2-Classic.lua
• started wow classic
• verified there were 0 entries in the mobinfo2 database
• killed one mob (it dropped a xxx)
• opened /mi2 -- and verified that the database had one mob entry in it
• verified that the items showed up, but that mob did not

First picture of me is killing the Nightbane, dropping one scroll. The item shows up properly here.

The next image is showing that there is just one mob in the mobinfo database

This picture screenshot shows that the scroll is showing up in the Items List tab under search

And the final screenshot shows that the Mob List is blank, not showing the Nightbane mob.

Well... I have just migrated this Addon for Now to be at least working with Classic

I never used all the features of the addon, but I'll try my best to get them all working.

I'd love to see what here would be your desired behaviour. I love your work so far, wish everyone would log a bug so good 👍

So the Search Tab seems broken completely, I have not had a look at it so far, but from the code I touched, I'm pretty sure that something has to be fixed there, because of the changes how the Database works in Classic.

To gather everything:

• Check if Search Queries are returning Results on local database
• Hide/Show Full List while no query is active
• Get to know the Search Tab better 👍

I can't promise you that this will be fixed in the new version, but I'll have a look.

@TheRealHypo thanks for taking a look. I've done a fair amount of programming in the past but never with LUA and most importantly never in the wow addon framework.

My goal is to sort mobs by 'profit' and know which mobs to grind for silver. The items list seems to be working, but not the "mob list" in the search tab. Hopefully its something small that makes the code start working ..

So after a little investigating. Sorry that it took some time.

The code seems to be intended to do either a Mob Search or a Item Search. It's not cross functionality to search for a Mob and then show a List of items for that mobname.

With some thinking I might be able to create a query to do so, but I think checking the mobname and then hovering over the result list, shows the Mob Information including the dropped Items, on the Right Side, where MobInfo Tooltips get anchored, if no Unit is found to hover over.

Although the Mob List gets filtered if you type in an ItemName. The ItemList does not, if you type in a MobName

Just searching for the mob is fine .. then doing a mouseover should pop up all the details about that mob.

The big thing is that it keeps track of the money dropped and the value of green+grey items, and assigns a value to that. It looks like you could then sort by that value to see which mobs you've killed that have the highest "value". But the search box just randomly returns some mobs. Unsure what the problem is.

I think you misinterpret the UI ... Currently you can not cross search those databases, at least the code doesn't seem so.

Either search for mobs, or items. ... I could potentially rework this Search UI to do what you desire. But currently I don't think I have the time to rewrite a complete part of the code.

You can search in the item field and the mob comes up in the mob list. Other way around does not work. But the bigger problem is that not all mobs are shown in the list. Still they are somehow in the database - you see this by searching some item and mouse over in the result list and there are all mobs that drop this item in a correct way but when you switch back to the mob list a lot of them are missing there. Thats also my biggest problem so you can not see the value of the mobs in one glance.

I do love this mod. But I am having the same issue.

I like seeing the "best value" mobs show up in the search tab. Obviously lucky drops hugely influence the list, but after repeated farming of that mob then the average will sort itself out.

Currently I have 196 different mobs in the database, yet only 103 of them are listed in the search tab. No idea why.

But as luckyvalentine has mentioned, if I hover over a mob in world that isn't in the search tab, or hover over an item that dropped from a mob that isn't in the search tab, then it shows the info fine.

So, it is being accurately recorded in the database - it is just not populating the "mob list" as I would have expected, and thus is not creating my "kill list".
