Summary

Replace silent exception swallowing in backend/api/routers/tts_stream.py with scrubbed debug logging, wrap WebSocket accept calls within the outer exception boundary, and ensure sensitive filesystem paths are redacted across error logs and frame transmissions.

Changes

  • Emotion Clip Resolution: Added scrubbed debug logging on OSError and UnsafePath during candidate path resolution in resolve_emotion_clip.
  • Voice Profile Lookup: Replaced bare except Exception: pass during voice profile resolution in _extract_stream_kwargs with scrubbed debug logging.
  • Memory Budget Probe: Replaced bare except Exception: pass during pre-load memory breadcrumb check in ws_tts with scrubbed debug logging.
  • WebSocket Connection Lifecycle: Moved websocket.accept() inside the main exception handling try block in ws_tts, ensuring connection failures are caught and logged cleanly.
  • Error Frame Transmission: Added scrubbed debug logging when failing to transmit error frames over closing WebSockets, and applied path scrubbing to logger.exception calls.
  • Unit Tests: Added comprehensive test suite in tests/test_tts_stream_logging.py covering error conditions and path scrubbing.

  • No local machine paths, logs, or personal env details in this PR
  • Maintained version files are in sync (if an owner-requested bump): root package.json, pyproject.toml, backend/core/version.py, and lockfiles
  • If this PR changes runtime behavior, the regression fixture at tests/fixtures/omnivoice_data/ still loads green on the smoke-matrix CI job (macOS + Windows + Linux)

Release cadence

VoiceStudio ships continuous-to-main — no release candidates, no soak windows.
Every merged PR is immediately part of rolling source (main) and Docker
:latest. Electron artifact rehearsals validate desktop packages without publishing.
Version bumps require owner approval; validated releases are tagged from main
and published explicitly under the release checklist.
Users who want stability install an Electron release or pin Docker :stable.

The TTS stream now logs scrubbed exception details for resolution and WebSocket failures, and handles websocket.accept() inside the outer exception handler. This improves failure diagnosis while reducing the risk of exposing filesystem paths in logs. No merge risk is established by the supplied evidence.

[Medium impact] The PR appears safe to merge; both previous path-disclosure findings are fixed.

Summary

Both previous path-disclosure findings are addressed.

  • TTS lookup and memory-probe failures now leave scrubbed debug clues.
  • TTS WebSocket setup and stream errors now leave scrubbed logs.

📝 Walkthrough

The TTS streaming router now logs scrubbed exception details for path resolution and WebSocket failures. New tests check log contents, path scrubbing, and selected existing fallback behavior.

Changes: TTS stream failure logging

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolution failure logging
backend/api/routers/tts_stream.py, tests/test_tts_stream_logging.py
Emotion-clip and voice-profile resolution failures now log scrubbed details. Tests check the logs and confirm existing exception and fallback behavior.
WebSocket failure logging
backend/api/routers/tts_stream.py, tests/test_tts_stream_logging.py
Acceptance, receive, memory-probe, generation, error-frame-send, and outer-handler failures now log scrubbed exception details. Tests cover several failure paths.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 0ce0d

This change adds sanitized logging to TTS streaming failure paths and moves the WebSocket accept call inside the error handler. No new user-facing regressions were found, so it is ready to merge. The raw exception text in client error frames predates this change and could be addressed separately.

Use a valid RoutingResult in the memory-probe test.

None makes ws_tts raise at _routing["routing_status"] before the request continues; the debug assertion still covers path scrubbing, but the test also reports success after an unrelated routing error. Return a cpu_only result with routing_reason: None; routing_notice already returns None for cpu_only, so do not patch it.

…ith error, and isolate routing in tests

- Apply scrub_text to root path in resolve_emotion_clip debug logging to redact home directory paths.
- Replace logger.exception with logger.error in ws_tts stream failure handler to avoid leaking disk traceback paths.
- Resolve tts_stream module dynamically at test runtime, return valid RoutingResult in memory probe test, and assert error logging excludes sensitive traceback paths.
