It doesn't, but you don't necessarily need to use store_var either.
If you use a sensor inside an entity, the plot will re-draw when it changes. This redraw will also refresh the parts where you used hass.states.

Thanks for the quick reply @dbuezas appreciated! Makes sense, so just creating some "dummy" internal entities should do the trick then! Thanks for the hint. I guess one small advantage of store_var is that the state will not be read twice from HASS / the DB, but that should only be marginal to performance. Thanks again & best regards, Kristian
