Brush Painting Only Foreground, View Error, Flickering

Hello! New to Pablodraw. Was excited to try out the brush, but it appears to break fairly easily. Changing the brush size, brush type, or scrolling(?) has been making the brush only pull the background color, or not update the viewport properly. Just now the viewport is flickering colors.
