Avro 1.12 requires Java 11+. We can upgrade when we drop Java 8, which is when Kafka 4.0 is released early next year

Java 8 is deprecated in current Kafka 3.8.

The confluent schema-registry doesn't need to have the same inertia as the Kafka project , WDYT ?

It looks like Avro 1.12.0 introduces a regression caused by apache/avro#2389

confluent 7.9.0 support avro 1.11.4 -> https://github.com/confluentinc/common/blob/61598fc63f83d8908d8014c81816defcf59d5423/pom.xml#L49

1.12.0 was revert -> confluentinc/common#742
