MBR - grldr not found #445

Hi,
MBR, (not UEFI), EXT2 filesystem, version 0.4.6a-2021-08-13 does work absolutely fine. When I tried on same machine updated version: grub4dos-0.4.6a-2025-07-03 then I had boot error "grldr not found".

I spent several hours to find the potential problem.

I noticed this specified machine under grub is recognized as a HD0,msdos1 etc instead of HD0,1 etc so maybe here is the problem? Or the fact that I'm using EXT2 partition for grub4dos?

Above problem I reproduced few times.
One time I created small additional FAT32 partition, so:
SDA1: FAT32 empty
SDA2: EXT2 with grub4dos
I installed grub4dos on SDA2<-->MBR by bootlace.com but same problem, "grldr not found".
Then I copied grldr file in to SDA1 FAT32, just like that - it started to work.

My original setup is SDA1: EXT2, and when I use bootlace.com to make it as above, I get "grldr not found", but as soon as I downgrade to version 0.4.6a-2021-08-13 it does works straight away without any FAT32 additional partition. I tried some random 2024 version - same problem. I didn't tried any 2023 or 2022, but definitely latest version has problem there. Version 0.4.6a-2021-08-13 does work. I'm happy to make further tests with potentially new version to help with this project.

Maybe 2021 version has EXT2 support and 2025 hasn't or is not working correctly?
Maybe 2021 is recognizing 'HD0,msdos1' partition format and 2025 is not or is not working correctly?

2021 does work absolutely fine for me, I don't need latest 2025 version really for my needs, I upgraded only because of new version. When found bug I was thinking about helping by reproducing problem, so it can be found and addressed, I'm happy to make further tests if required.
