Often an updated mincecraft version will require a newer version of java than the one installed. In this case the minecraft launcher will start, but when you try to start minecraft, you get an “Error code 0”
- Find out which version of java is required for this version of minecraft.
- Download the appropriate version from here.
- Extract this version somewhere
- Tell minecraft to use this version of java
