Issue with SSB-Viewer installation via repo

I'm following the Docker instructions and would like to add the optional SSB-Viewer. Ran into this issue...

$ git clone ssb://%MeCTQrz9uszf9EZoTnKCeFeIedhnKWuB3JHW2l1g9NA=.sha256 ssb-viewer

Same issue here. I find it strange that we need to download a blog from the SSB network when we're not connected to any other pub/people, and as such have an empty local database.
I found ssb-viewer on github and replace the mesh clone with :
git clone https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-viewer.git ssb-viewer
and then ran into another problem with port 8989 not being opened at localhost (inside docker container)
Found a patch in the issues here (edited config file), and now it's hanging...
