Defunct OpenTestPoint Probes

Hello!

I’m getting an issue starting up OpenTestPoint probes on a simple 2-node RF Pipe network (using Ubuntu 20.04). After doing the otestpointd command, I list the processes and it shows that I’m getting defunct processes for all three of my probes, as shown below.

Upon looking at the otestpointd.log file, I see the following output. Similar to issue #11, where there is a communication timeout creating the python probes.

If I run the otestpointd command without daemonizing, I see the following result. Could this be causing the problem?

I’ve run through the OpenTestPoint procedure for Demo 1 on the Tutorial VM and everything works fine. All of the files in my Ubuntu 20.04 VM also follow the same format as the ones in the tutorial, so not sure why it isn’t working.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the defunct probes issue?

Does emane-tutorial demo 1 work on the system that you are seeing the issue? What version(s) of Adjacent Link FOSS are being used? How were they installed? Did you install all dependent packages from apt repos? Is there a mix of pip installed and apt repo installed packages, such as Google Protocol Buffers, on the system?

Hi Steve, we installed EMANE on an Ubuntu 20.04 VM from packages as described at this link:

Here are the steps we executed and an error we encountered during the EMANE install.
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt install libzmq5 (could not get install to work without this library)
sudo apt --fix-broken install

We encountered the following error at this point:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of python3-pynodestatviz:
python3-pynodestatviz depends on python3-pmw; however:
Package python3-pmw is not installed

sudo apt-get install -f

We were able to start and use EMANE successfully; is the above error causing the problem? Should we install python3-pmw and redo the EMANE install?

Regarding running emane-tutorial Demo 1 on our Ubuntu 20.04 system, it also does not function properly. The otestpointd commands seem to be nonexistent in the process listing and, when running that command manually (otestpointd otestpointd1.xml), it shows up with the messages below and stops the process.

We also did otestpointd otestpointd1.xml -d -l 3 -f otestpointd.log to see if anything else is outputted into the log file, but it just shows the INFO messages.
