Rename and rebrand

In the past, we have received some negative feedback about the name 'MaPS'. Due to a lack of better ideas, we have kept up with this name.

We could rename and rebrand to krio. This name is derived from kryogenik, and a deliberate misspelling (kryo is a serialization library in Java, and cryo is some kind of a file browser. krio does not exist as a software project as far as I can tell).

This renaming / branding should give an average user unfamiliar with our software some generic intuition for how it works, i.e., it freezes research software in time, and the cryogenically frozen software can be revived later to run without problems.

This will require some interface rewrite (krio prep instead of maps package --sandbox, krio fetch instead of maps --deploy, etc), and some documentation rewrite (krio tray instead of MaPS runtime maybe ?).

We talked about it, but for the record: the proposed new name seems fine to me. But so does the old name. I don't really understand the objections to that, and given that, I can't tell if the new name would resolve those objections.

So it would be best to get the people who had objections to explain them here, and to comment on what they think about the new name.

To me the name suggests that we need a packaging system that is specific to the needs of MaRDI. It is not obvious how the situation in MaRDI is different from the situation in other contexts. I would thus advocate to build extensions to general purpose open source solutions for the features we need that can not be covered by those. My suggestion would be to review https://www.softwareheritage.org/2025/05/21/software-heritage-guix-deployment/ and identify the features (such as dependencies to commercial software) that are missing. For turning maps into sustainable open source product/service (like LaTeX) we would need to define a roadmap. Once we have that, we can still consider renaming maps or keeping that name and just exchange the technology under the hood.
