Tracking doesnt work, but buttons do

I connected my old redmi note 7 phone to my pc running windows 11 pro, and while the buttons do work, the tracking doesnt (it shows that its doing something in the app though). neither the rotation nor the position works.

it does support arcore, i have just realized that the joystick doesnt work either. i have also tried this with a moto g82 (that i normally use as a headset with ivry, with arcore 6 dof), and same thing. there is a beige colored thing in the app that moves around as i move the Phone, which looks to be arcore tracking info, so it does track something.

How does the calibration work? it says you need to lay the phone facing up at a tracker (idk what tracker), then calibrate. what orientation does the phone need to be in?

The calibration wouldn't make the tracking work, it just adds an offset to all movements to align the actual location with the virtual location. Assuming youre holding your phone vertically, the top of the device should point up into the bottom of the tracker. Almost like a flashlight.

okay that clarifies it a bit, thank you, as for the joystick, it could also be that the steamvr input checker thingy doesnt show everything, because it also didnt show the grip button, i dont think thats an issue. its only the tracking that doesnt work. i did use the arcore.zip file, unzipped it, then dragged the folder inside that zip file to the drivers directory for steamvr, that is correct right?

I am having the same issue, tried with a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G and a Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G (which both support ARCore)
Although I've noticed that moving the phone changes the controllers position, but very weirdly
I've tried this with iVRy and VRidge but it was the same thing
I've also recorded the weird controller tracking, in the clip I'm using the A53 with SteamVR 2.12.14 and iVRy for the headset

yeah that video describes it pretty well, though my issue is even more severe. i could get it to work once for 1 minute with random movement like this, but all the other Times i get just stationary Controllers or randomly teleporting ones. the app appears to track it fine, the beige background is moving fluidly and stuff. https://github.com/WhiteJ-f/ARCore-VR-Controller
this person has forked the repo and done a commit which read "forced tracking" but i dont know how to build that project, so i cant test it out

I tried to build that project and use the dll it gave me instead of the one from here but it didn't work. It was as if the phone and computer weren't communicating with eachother, no buttons worked, no tracking, nothing.

Here's my build
I just cloned the repo, opened it in Visual Studio 2019 and built it as Release x64
Then I just copied it into SteamVR/drivers/arcore/bin/win64 and renamed it to driver_arcore.dll since the old dll was named like that
I still get the trackers in SteamVR but they just didn't do anything when I connected my phone to my pc

thank you, i will try later. i dont have visual studio 2019, only 2022 community and there it wont work (visual studio cant find the header files, this is my first time using visual studio so bear with me here). update: buttons work with your dll, but tracking doesnt either. can you build waterdishs current driver? waterdish seems to have changed some stuff compared to the release version

I managed to build Waterdishs current version, same result, still no tracking.

I've just tried it what you told me but I just realized that Waterdish's newest commit is a change to the Unity project, not the SteamVR driver, I can't really try compiling that right now because my internet is just too slow to download Unity...

you are right, i didnt remember correctly, sorry. i have also quickly looked through the c files, and header files and havent found something easy like enabletracking = false, i will probably try to uncomment some of the code waterdish commented, maybe i can find some combination that works. i can try downloading unity, but i have pretty much no idea about how to use it so it will be a bit of a challenge (the coding i have done so far was in the arduino ide, eclipse, and using vscode with various languages).
